About Us

Our Story — From Encino Appliance Repair to Green Appliance Repair

We started in 2011 as Encino Appliance Repair with a simple frustration: too many homeowners were being told they needed a brand-new appliance when all they really needed was a $150 repair. Perfectly good machines — refrigerators, washers, ovens — were ending up at the curb and eventually in landfills.

I’m Erik Olson, and I spent eight years as a factory-authorized service technician for Sub-Zero and Thermador before starting this company. During those years, I worked inside some of the most expensive kitchens in the San Fernando Valley — and I saw the same thing over and over. A homeowner would call a big-name repair company, get quoted $2,000 for a “full system replacement,” and end up buying a new refrigerator they didn’t need. Meanwhile, the actual problem was a $45 fan motor or a faulty defrost timer.

It drove me crazy.

So in the summer of 2011, I bought a used Ford E-250, loaded it with parts, and started taking calls out of a small office on Ventura Blvd. My pitch was simple: I’ll diagnose it honestly, I’ll fix it if it can be fixed, and I’ll tell you straight if it can’t.

Why We Became Green Appliance Repair

After 13 years and over 11,400 appliances repaired, we realized something: what we’d been doing all along was environmental work. Every appliance we fix is one that doesn’t end up in a landfill. Every compressor we rebuild keeps hundreds of pounds of steel, copper, and refrigerant out of the waste stream. Every washer we save from the curb is one less appliance that needs to be manufactured, shipped, and eventually disposed of again.

In 2024, we made it official. We rebranded to Green Appliance Repair because “repair over replace” isn’t just good business — it’s the right thing for the planet. Americans throw away approximately 9 million tons of appliances every year. Most of them could have been fixed.

We’re still the same team of nine factory-certified technicians on Ventura Blvd. Same honest diagnostics, same fair prices, same one-year parts warranty. We just made official what was always true: the greenest appliance is the one you already own.

“I got into this business because I was tired of watching people get ripped off. Somewhere along the way, I realized we were also keeping thousands of appliances out of landfills. That’s the kind of business I want to run — one that’s good for homeowners and good for the planet.” — Erik Olson, Owner

Meet the Team

Erik Olson — Owner & Lead Technician

Erik founded the company in 2011 (originally as Encino Appliance Repair) after eight years as a factory-authorized technician for Sub-Zero and Thermador. He holds certifications from both manufacturers and specializes in high-end refrigeration and cooking appliances. Erik personally handles the most complex diagnostic cases and oversees quality on every job.

Marcus Chen — Senior Technician (15 Years Experience)

Marcus is our Miele and Bosch specialist. Before joining the team in 2013, he spent six years with an authorized Miele service center in West LA. If you own a Miele dishwasher, a Bosch washer, or any German-engineered appliance, Marcus is the tech you want in your kitchen. He’s also our go-to for integrated refrigeration systems and panel-ready units.

Diana Reyes — Dishwasher & Washer Expert (10 Years Experience)

Diana joined us in 2015 and quickly became the most-requested technician for dishwasher and washing machine repairs. She has a particular talent for diagnosing intermittent problems — the ones that “only happen sometimes” and drive homeowners crazy. Her specialty is Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Maytag laundry systems, and she’s repaired more dishwasher drain pumps than anyone else on the team.

Tony Marchetti — Oven & Range Specialist

Tony spent twelve years repairing commercial restaurant equipment before joining our residential team. That background gives him an edge on gas ranges, dual-fuel ranges, and convection ovens that most residential techs simply don’t have. He’s our first call for Wolf, Viking, and Thermador cooking appliances, and he’s the tech homeowners request when their Thanksgiving oven decides not to heat.

Plus 5 Additional Certified Technicians

Our full team of nine covers every major appliance type and brand. Every technician on the team carries manufacturer certifications, undergoes annual training, and drives a fully stocked service van so we can complete most repairs in a single visit.
